Mary

I  was back in Harrisonburg again last weekend for yet another graduation. This time it was Mary's turn.  She received her diploma in special education from Eastern Mennonite University.  It was a rainy spring day but the sun was shining bright on my family for this momentous occasion.

To Mary:

It's hard to put into words to express how proud I am of you.  You are truly one of the most genuine people I have ever known.  I'm amazed by your capacity for caring and understanding that is so deep.
You have always been wise beyond your years.  I  think you chose the perfect career path and I cant think of a better person to help guide our young people and teach them to be strong- just like you.   I'm so proud of you and love you so much.

Your Friend & Brother,
James

4900 year old trees

This picture shows a row of disrupted cells in a tree ring from a bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva) growing in the White Mountains of California (photo © R.K. Adams and H.D. Grissino-Mayer). This is no ordinary frost ring. This one was formed in the year 1627 B.C., and is connected with the eruption of Thera in the Mediterranean Sea.
